DOTW Emanuelnoire

I was first curious about Emanuelnoire's work when I saw the thumbnail of the Angel pic he manipulated. I actually thought it was a Shane-esque chick doing a gender play with Angel. hehe
But, as it turns out, it is a guy from Poland. This is an interesting gallery, if you have time to really look through, I recommend it. It's like a snapshot, pardon the pun, of a person's life. There's so much about this guy that you get from his photos, it is quite the walk-through of his existence.

Food Part 2: Sara Remington
Sara Remington has very small, contained, peaceful shots. Her official site has pics from both her books.

DOTW laurytah
laurytah has a definate journalism flare. They'd be great working for some glossy mag. They're sense of colour is really unique, sparing and yet effective. DeviantArt, however, is proving that nothing in this cyber-world of ours remains free forever.

Stefano Giovannini Part 1
This guy has done one of the most beautiful Cat Power photoshoots I have ever come across and I have so much envy for anyone who gets to spend time in the same room as such an amzing woman. Pics of Chan will come later though, as well as some of Sonic Youth. In the meantime, here is an introduction to Mr Gionvannini with a few of his random snaps...

DOTW LanceUSA
LanceUSA offers largely black and white waterscapes with the occasional portrait or still life in the mix. I'd love to know where he's from, where these shots were taken. After a little lookin around I discovered he has his own site, and he's recently received a Merit Award in Black & White Magazine's 2007 Single Image Contest Awards. I don't think that issue has made it to Australia yet, I'm looking forward to it.

Helen Levitt
Well, I'm back from a 10 day break for the new year. Hope everyone had a great festive season. Now, on to the first post of 2007!...
Ms Levitt, born in 1913, was around during a time when the heat and the lack of television drove people into the streets of New York. Children played together, their parents worked and their grandparents sat in groups nearby. She concentrated especially on the working class suburbs and Spanish Harlem. These circumstances provided her with a fascinating backdrop to explore her interest in photography. She dropped out of school, learnt as much as she could while working with a commercial photographer in the Bronx and later began to teach art to children. Her most well-known shots are of the chalk drawings and ramblings on the walls and streets of New York. Although she has never been widely recognised by the public, she is highly respected by the photographic community. Check out the interview with her on the National Public Radio website.
