Drugs in Film and TV Part 1

Let's include a little moving photography with some of the best representations of drug experiences in film. These examples are in no particular order. We're beginning with Emmett Honeycutt's shroom adventure at the fairies in the woods retreat on Queer as Folk. I love the colours and the way the wind moves through the field. The camera angles as he looks around him like he's suddenly realising the scope of the world... very shroomy. It's great.

Melissa Auf der Maur

Natasha Lyonne for BUST

Rufus Wainwright

The guitarist in one of my favourite all-time bands, Hole, is also one of my favourite photographers. Her photos have been published in several reputable magazines and she has also exhibited her work at Sotheby's in New York. A fan-tastic fan-site for Melissa, Firecrasher, offers heaps of Melissa's work and I have included some of my favourites in this post - most notably, a fantastic photoshoot of Natasha Lyonne for BUST magazine.

Wednesday Deviants

Wednesday is now going to be Deviant Art Day. To save people spending hours scouring the photos to find some good ones, I'll pick out a few gems and post a new one each week. Although some people do love the scouring, so check out the website for more.

DOTW picmin

Pumkin

Time Machine

And this week's Wednesday Deviant is... picmin! This artist has a great understanding of still life images, I especially love her shots of pumpkins and capsicums (or peppers for all you Americans out there). Many of her pieces have been created for school, so they tend to be very thematic, but she pulls it off and has created some beauties.

Claire Fisher's Photography

In the wake of one of the best shows to ever grace our screens I was thrilled to come across all of Claire's artwork on HBO's Six Feet Under webpage. There's quotes from directors, set designers and some of the artists that created the work in Claire's name about how and why these pieces were chosen. In addition to her gorgeous photos and photo collages, there are also individual shots of each room of the dollhouse she costructed and there's even the 'shroom inspired harlequin pants, and, my personal favourite, blue pajama man.

Time lapse photography @ YouTube

Ah... the wonders of the internet. Latest web-craze, YouTube, offers up another unusual gem. Noah takes a photo of himself every day for 6 years. Check it out, it takes time lapse photography to a whole new, long-term, narcissistic level.

Joseph Szabo

Ok, so I had to do a post on Joseph Szabo, it was only a matter of time. After all, he is the reason behind the name of my blog. The photo I used as the token image for my blog is named 'Priscilla', for those who didn't get the reference... I suppose more Australians would get that than anyone else. This photo is widely known, although not many people seem to know the name of the guy who took it. I think it's partly due to 'Priscilla' appearing as the cover to the Dinosaur Jr album, Green Mind. He's got lots of great stuff, check out his website for more photos.

Freedom Child: Corinne Day

One of my favourite photoshoots of Kate Moss, by Corinne Day, featured in Vogue magazine.

DOTW EvilxElf

I've become addicted to surfing the Deviant Art website. There's heaps of photography by a variety of people and some of them are actually really good, at a much better standard than most open submission websites. One photographer I've noticed in particular is EvilxElf. Here are a few of her photos, but check out her gallery for more.
